Mobility Scooters and Powerchairs
Like all modes of transportation, you should take care when riding a motorised scooter or wheelchair and regulate your speed according to the environment and pedestrian activity, and look out for danger or obstacles. Mobility scooters and Powerchairs are specially designed to be easily controlled to help you move around safely. With simple user controls, your Mobility Scooter or Powerchair will automatically come to a stop when you release the throttle lever, even on hills, and then apply the safety brake. Many Mobility Scooters also include a low-speed option to reduce the risk of unplanned quick movement amongst pedestrians or in smaller spaces.
Do I need a License or registration for my Mobility Scooter?
No, you don’t need a license to ride a Mobility Scooter or Powerchair in Queensland. However, it is a requirement that you register your motorised scooter or wheelchair to use it in public areas. Registration is regulated by the Queensland Governments Department of Transport and Mains Roads (TMR) and is free to users. Hello Mobility is one of the few TMR authorised plate dealers and we can complete the registration forms and issue a number plate on the day of delivery for you, saving you time and stress visiting a TMR office and fitting a number plate. Registration also includes free third-party insurance so in the unlikely event someone is injured while riding your scooter, cover for injuries to others may be available.2
