Despite his “research” on using a scooter while unlicensed, 35-year-old Shane Swancott of Belmont, NSW, decided to take his boat for a 1km drive along the Pacific Highway while causing serious danger to other road users.
He was fortunately spotted by police and charged with several driving offences, despite not being behind the wheel of a car.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Swancott was “charged with driving while disqualified, using an unregistered vehicle on the road, using an uninsured vehicle on the road and using an unregistered trailer on the road”.
Needless to say, we do not recommend following Mr Swancott’s lead. It is unlawful to use a scooter on the road like this, not to mention incredibly dangerous to travel at such low speeds on a highway.
Of course, scooters are ideal for getting around when you don’t have a licence, but it’s always important to obey the road rules for your safety as well as that of others.
