There is an Irish proverb that states “A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything” and we agree! Unfortunately for some the idea of a good night’s sleep is merely a dream. People who struggle with pain find that getting decent quality sleep is far from easy.

There has been lots of research looking into the various effects of sleep deprivation. We are interested in cases of people with different disabilities. Chronic pain was amongst the effects of poor-quality sleep so a bit of a chicken and egg situation. Migraines, circadian rhythm disorders, and other severe health issues, all related to a lack of proper rest. There is widespread agreement that addressing the sleep issues of people with disabilities can improve mood and physical well-being.

The sleep industry offers plenty of specialized beds, mattresses, bedding accessories. These pieces of equipment and functional devices help people with disabilities improve their sleep quality.

  • Low-profile beds are designed to be closer to the floor. That ensures that people need not worry about the height and helps them be more relaxed when getting in and out. Some also offer a whole of bed tilt feature (Trendelenburg position) providing relief for poor circulation or fluid retention in the legs. They are also a great option for those who may roll or fall out of bed because of their disability.
